Everyone knows a freak who can bend down and touch their toes. You might be one yourself. Or you might be at the opposite end of the spectrum… battling to touch your knee caps. Or maybe your stomach is big and you can’t even see your knees (not to mention toes) to even reach for them.

Wherever you fall on the ‘stretching’ spectrum, stretching is good!
You will find a whole lot of medical evidence for this.
They tell you to stretch before you run. Stretch before you dance.
There’s a whole science to it.
There’s another kind of stretching which I find the Lord doing in my life at the moment and it’s really uncomfortable. I feel like the Holy Spirit is prompting me to touch my toes and as He prompts me out of my comfort zones, it’s painful. Still, He believes I can do it because it’s about Him and who He is and not about me and my strength and flexibility.
Do you also feel a bit like a yogi in a pretzel position? Are spiritual muscles you didn’t know you even had aching a little?
Maybe this will help you, or maybe not – it might just be a random blog musing to myself, I don’t know – but did you ever consider that it’s not about you touching your toes. He is the one stretching you. He is the one doing the work. You just have to yield to Him.
Trust Him in the process.
I remember in ballet classes our teacher would walk around the class when we were sitting with our legs outstretched and gently push on our backs to push us further into the stretch. She would tell us not to tense up but just to relax into the posture as she helped position us and reach just that much further with each lesson.
When you feel this stretching, when you feel uncomfortable, you might ask things like, ‘Jesus, what’s going on?’
You’re about to run. You’re about to dance. With Him. For Him and for His glory. He’s warming up those muscles. The intensity of your walk with Him has been turned up a few notches. He’s getting you ready. Yield to Him.
When you feel the stretching, it’s time to dance.
Remember this: Your job is not to reach for your toes. Your job is to keep reaching for Him and yielding to Him. He will stretch you.
“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.” (Isaiah 54:2)
