The Lord never leaves His people empty-handed and He never forgets His promises. Remember how Abraham was asked to give to the Lord his only son? How he climbed the mountain to sacrifice Isaac there and how when he arrived at its summit and prepared to offer up his son, he saw a ram there in the thicket? And so the ram became Isaac’s replacement.

God had foreseen this moment before Abraham set out and while Abraham and Isaac were climbing the mountain, at the side other side of the mountain, unseen by them as they climbed, a ram was making its way up to the top. Its appearance to Abraham was perfectly timed to coincide with his moment of dire need and distress.
“So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” (Genesis 22:14)
Like Abraham, the Israelites had climbed their own ‘mountain’ in making their way to the Red Sea. Like Abraham faced with an insurmountable challenge as he placed Isaac on the altar, they faced a wall of water. But the same God who provided for Abraham had put something in their hand. The Lord had already seen this moment. He already knew what He would do.
“Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.” (Exodus 14:16).
So Moses lifted up the staff and the waters parted.
Your circumstances aren’t a surprise to the Lord. He’s not sitting there with an amazed expression on his face thinking, “What happened there?” Or sighing in resignation, “I didn’t see that one coming!”
Everything passes through our Sovereign Lord’s hands and He has given you what you need for this moment – just as He has for every other moment.
Today, I ask you to look again.
What is in your hand?
Has He spoken a Word to you which you have failed to obey? Or maybe you have strayed from His written Word and need to put things right with Him.
Then lift up the staff of His Word, and obey.
Has he given you a gift or talent or opportunity you have left on the shelf? Have you considered it as nothing? Remember, it is written, ‘Do not despise the day of small beginnings.’
Or maybe there is something He has asked you to cast down. Something you know is the thing that hinders you. He can give you the strength to throw it down.
If you feel you have nothing in your hands – then just use your hands. Lift them up in praise and worship. As long as there is breath in you, you are able to overcome because He who is in you is greater than He who is in the world.
God loves you. He has made a way. The ram, as the lamb of God, was given in exchange for Isaac and He has been sacrificed in exchange for you, setting you free to live life and life in abundance – ‘life out loud’.
“Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied.”
