Irrevocable:‘…not able to be changed, reversed, or recovered; final’ (Dictionary.com)
“For God’s gifts and call are irrevocable” – Romans 11:29

By Heather Djunga

My gran is 88 years old. She has become one of those cuddly, cute people with snowy hair and hands which stay clasped for most of the day.
While age has affected her memory and some of her cognitive functioning, I still catch glimpses of her. In these precious moments, her strong spirit and her passion for the community where she spent a great deal of her life, in Despatch just off Port Elizabeth, comes through with a wave of clarity.
The truest parts of her have remained untouched by age and they are there still, though not always apparent.

In the same way, I remember Chris as a tiny baby. Even then, he was filled with peace and joy – a feisty little thing, but with joy always in his trademark smile, a smile which shone through his eyes even as a baby. He was himself even then – though substantially smaller… and when he is 88 one day, I imagine he will still be Chris. The truest parts of him are unchangeable.

It becomes easy to think that when we fall down, and then fall down again, that somehow what God has placed inside of us has been extinguished and we have lost these things without hope of them being redeemed.
But the Lord says His gifts and calling are irrevocable.

Today He wants to fan them into flame by His Spirit. He is the resurrection and the life and is able to breathe life into what you thought was dead and buried.
Ask Him to fan into flames what He has placed inside of you. You can begin anew with Him.
Don’t let the enemy lie to you and say ‘it is too late’,’It is beyond redemption’, ‘You must settle for second best’.

Did you ever consider that when He made that promise to you, He knew the interesting, maybe even challenging journey you would make towards this promised outcome?
He saw the betrayal and the challenge of imprisonment when He gave Joseph His dreams of leading and influencing his brothers and Egypt.
He saw Jezebel and the prophets of Baal when he commissioned Elijah and called him to the mountain.
He saw Judas when He sent the angel Gabriel with the announcement of Jesus’ birth. Judas was not able to change Jesus’ truest identity: Jesus…‘God Saves’

Stop agreeing with the lies of the enemy and the opinions of others. It’s who God says you are. It’s who He has called you to be. It’s like with my gran and Chris. They are who they are because God made them and who they are is kept safe in Him.
You can return to Him and begin again. You were made for His glory, to walk on water… and if you tried before and sank because of the waves, with His help you can get up again.

30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:30,31)

Do you hear Him calling you across the water? This time, choose to believe the Voice of Truth.

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat I’m in
Onto the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
To the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He’s holding out his hand

But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times I’ve tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again, “Boy, you’ll never win!”
“You’ll never win”

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
And the voice of truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
And the voice of truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a Sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they’d have had the strength to stand

But the giant’s calling out my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times I’ve tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again, “Boy, you’ll never win!”
“You’ll never win”

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
And the voice of truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
And the voice of truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me (Calling out to me)
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth. (Voice of Truth, Casting Crowns)
